Ixthos Announces New PMC Card
Ixthos has announced a user-programmable PMC card that allows the designer to uniquely configure the module to meet virtually any I/O need for telecommunications applications and for increasing the computing performance of CHAMP-based DSP subsystems. The PMC GPIO-1 presents a high-performance, 64 bit wide, 66 MHz PCI interface to the baseboard with up to 256 MB of onboard SDRAM memory, and furnishes self-hosted DMA and interrupt capabilities. Intelligent FPGA cores allow the implementation of enhanced DSP co-processor and hardware accelerator functions. Also available are intelligent FPGA cores to implement FIR and IIR filters, error correction, ADPCM modems, MPEG decoders, Ethernet MAC, and HDLC controllers.

Call Sciences Integrates Vocal Link Technology
Call Sciences' recent acquisition of Vocal Link technology has resulted in the integration of Vocal Link's e-mail hosting capabilities into Call Sciences' flagship product, Personal Assistant. The e-mail hosting capabilities will be among several new features added to the latest release of Personal Assistant. Other key enhancements include more natural-sounding text-to-speech capabilities, a new personal address book which integrates with Microsoft Outlook, a sleeker Web interface for managing accounts, and the ability to set up conference calls from the Internet. The text-to-speech feature, developed in conjunction with network-based speech technology provider SpeechWorks, will give Personal Assistant the ability to read e-mail messages over the phone with a more natural sounding voice.

IBM Announces New WebSphere Infrastructure
IBM has announced new WebSphere infrastructure software. The software packages include WebSphere Everyplace Access Version 1.1, an integrated, open standards-based software package that includes WebSphere Voice Server, WebSphere Transcoding Publisher, and WebSphere Application Server. WebSphere Voice Server 1.5 voice-enables applications and information for mobile e-business through its technologies for accepting voice input and generating synthesized speech output. It also supports VoiceXML. With WebSphere Voice Server 1.5, companies can leverage their investments in Web and call center technologies to deliver voice-enabled applications.

VMIC Intros VMIPMC-6101
VMIC has introduced the VMIPMC-6101, a PMC-based Gigabit Ethernet adapter with copper interface. The VMIPMC-6101 features the Intel 82543GC Gigabit Ethernet MAC. The 82543GC provides a 32/64 bit, 33/66 MHz interface compliant to PCI Rev. 2.2. It also has a 64 KB packet buffer to maintain high performance. A 1000T CAT5 copper interface is provided via the front panel RJ45 connector. Drivers are included which ease integration with SBC products that support PMC.

Advantech Announces New cPCI SBC
Advantech has announced its new cPCI SBC, the MIC-3377/M. The MIC-3377/M accepts the Pentium III (up to 850 MHz) or Celeron (up to 733 MHz) processors with the PGA370 package. The Pentium III has on-chip 256 KB and the Celeron has on-chip 128 KB L2 cache memory. The MIC-3377/M incorporates the Intel 440BXC chipset that delivers an FSB (Front Side Bus) bandwidth of 100 MHz. Two versions of the CPU are available: the MIC-3377/M with single PCI-to-PCI bridge is applicable up to 8-slot enclosure and drives up to 7 cPCI slots, and the MIC-3377D/M with optional dual PCI-to-PCI bridges is applicable up to 14-slot enclosure and drives up to 14 cPCI slots. Optional rear transition boards can be used to connect all the inputs and outputs on the rear panel.

Microsoft Windows XP In Beta
Microsoft has offered beta testers a first look at its Windows XP operating system, which the company calls a key part of an end-to-end, standards-based, flexible platform. With SIP-supporting Windows Messenger, users will have one seamless, integrated way to participate in text chat, voice and video communication, and data collaboration. Windows Messenger is also integrated with the new Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP. Windows XP also includes a new technology called acoustic echo cancellation. In addition to PC-to-PC voice calls, a future upgrade of Windows Messenger will enable PC-to-phone calls. Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional will be available October 25.

VocalData Announces VOISS 3.0
VocalData has announced a new release of its voice over IP softswitch (VOISS) solution. VOISS 3.0 includes integration with four industry IADs: the Vpacket 6100 Series, the Integral Access PurePacketNode, the Polycom NetEngine, and the Copper Mountain CopperEdge 200 DSL concentrator and CopperRocket 508. Four new voice applications include VOISS Front Desk, VOISS Meet-me Conferencing, VOISS Call Screening, and VOISS Incoming Call Center. VOISS 3.0 integrates with the Cisco 7910 as well as the Polycom SoundPoint IP500 IP phones (the Cisco 7960 has been supported since November 2000). In addition, VocalData has developed a desktop portal application for each model. Also, the proxy firewall now supports two additional protocols: MGCP and SIP.

Conversay And QUALCOMM To Embed Speech Technology
Conversay has reached an agreement with QUALCOMM in order to enable handset manufacturers to embed Conversay speech technology, including speech recognition and text-to-speech, in QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies' (QCT) Mobile Station Modem (MSM) integrated circuit and system software solutions used in CDMA handsets. QCT initially plans to port Conversay's front end software to the QDSP2000 embedded in its MSM integrated circuit and system software for CDMA wireless devices.

Alcatel Announces Converged Features
Alcatel has announced that its OmniVista enterprise network management solution will now bring customers converged network management features. Customers can now use the same NT server for managing OmniPCX 4400 and Omni data switches. They will also benefit from a common user interface while seamlessly migrating to a completely converged network management solution. Additionally, customers will have the ability to receive display alarms and perform network discovery of Alcatel's voice and data products through OmniVista's current data management platform. The next phase of Alcatel's converged network management strategy will offer a shared topology and extend to a fully-integrated single application.

Siemens Intros New Networking Solution
Siemens has introduced a new networking solution for small to medium-sized enterprises and branch offices: the HiPath AllServe 150. This Windows-based package offers an all-in-one solution for universal access to centralized applications via either TDM or IP. HiPath AllServe makes it possible for SMEs to network Siemens' HiPath 3500 and/or Hicom 150 H communications nodes across IP networks and create a uniform communications platform. It allows up to four systems to be networked over IP and operate as a single system. HiPath AllServe 150 allows applications to reside on a standard platform -- a PC server -- for sharing applications with users across a distributed IP network.

Konexx Intros Data Port Anywhere
Konexx has unveiled Data Port Anywhere, a USB product that connects laptop modems to virtually any office or hotel telephone. Data Port Anywhere weighs 3.3 ounces and measures 3.5" x 2.25" x 1.1". It connects to the office or hotel handset cord and requires a telephone with a modular handset, Microsoft Windows 98 or later, and a computer with a USB port. A Konexx driver is provided.

Nuance Ships Vocalizer
Nuance has announced the Nuance Vocalizer, software that converts text-based information into audio for access over the telephone. Nuance Vocalizer can simultaneously deliver North American English text-to-speech output to 150 callers from a single Intel Pentium III 500 MHz server. It is integrated with the Nuance 7.0 speech recognition engine and the Nuance Verifier 2.0 voice authentication software. Nuance Vocalizer is currently available for Windows NT and Windows 2000. UNIX support will be available this quarter.

Alliance Offers cPCI Solution
Alliance Systems is now offering a comprehensive cPCI solution to carriers, large enterprises, and SPs: the C-Series 10000 and 15000. The C-15000 high-availability system is designed for telco-grade applications. Key features include dual redundant, hot-swappable Pentium III processor system CPUs, 1264-bit peripheral slots with H.110 telephony bus and rear panel I/O, support for IEEE 1101.11-style rear transition cards, four AC/DC input 150 W hot-swappable power supplies, and PICMG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.5 compliance. Intel Enhances Voice Portal Technology
Intel has announced several enhancements to its voice portal reference systems, a line of integrated, application-ready servers configured with Intel Pentium processors. New features include support for Linux, a more space-efficient 1U rackmountable chassis, and availability for the carrier-grade Dialogic QuadSpan series of voice and speech processing hardware. Nuance Teams With Jabber.com
Jabber.com and Nuance have joined forces to offer advanced voice IM and presence solutions to their respective customers and partners for the enterprise and service provider markets. Nuance will offer an interface to Jabber's IM technology from its voice interface software. Jabber will use the Nuance 7.0 speech recognition engine to extend its current product offerings and allow its customers to add voice to their IM implementations. Incoming text messages will be converted to voice using the Nuance Vocalizer text-to-speech software.

Technoland Intros TL-RMSYS
Technoland has introduced its new 1U and 2U high-density platforms, the TL-RMSYS 101 and 201 Series. The 101 Series is a 1U low profile server with one 250 W ATX single power supply, one 64 bit PCI slot on a riser card, and two hot-swappable SCA-2 SCSI drive bays to allow RAID-1 configuration. The 201 Series supports 12" x 13" full size or extended ATX motherboards, along with six hot-swappable bays for IDE or SCA-2 SCSI drives. Other features for both series include integrated dual LAN, video, and SCSI or IDE RAID (optional on TL-RMSYS 201). Elma Announces COTS Enclosure
Elma Electronic has announced its 14U high COTS 12R2 enclosure for VME. It accommodates a custom split card cage with six 6U x 160 mm and 14 6U x 220 mm VME boards. One 6-slot, high performance, monolithic, ABG, VME64 backplane and two 14-slot uncommitted JO backplanes are installed. It also includes a custom, recessed, shock-isolated PSU drawer with five front removable power supplies and one VME power supply mounted behind the backplane. The COTS 12R2 is a rugged package for VME applications to meet mission critical requirements.
