MGE UPS Systems Introduces Centralized
Power Protection Solution
MGE UPS Systems has introduced its new Comet 40 kVA
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to its Comet family. The new
three-phase Comet offers the advantage of a centralized power source while
allowing individual control of servers over the network. The Comet is
ideal for facility networks, process control, and other critical networks
demanding very high efficiency such as those used in the healthcare,
financial, and insurance industries. The on-line design of the
microprocessor-based Comet UPS with its advanced solid-state circuitry
ensures clean, reliable power even in the harshest electrical environments
— with input-to-output efficiency ratings as high as 95 percent. The
Comet delivers true sine wave output that offers superior isolation and
power correction. This high level UPS efficiency not only ensures superior
power quality, it can result in annual electrical energy savings that
totals thousands of dollars (equivalent to the cost of the UPS over five
years). MGE’s 40 kVA – 150 kVA Comet UPS family delivers unparalleled
power protection and power conditioning, while setting a new industry
performance standard by offering up to 95 percent efficiency. The Comet
UPS system consists of a solid-state inverter, rectifier/battery charger,
a continuous duty static switch, and internal maintenance bypass switch,
and battery plant with Advanced Battery Management.

MCK Gateway Delivers PBX Functionality To
Mobile Phones
MCK Communications introduced its MobileConneX PBXgateway. Based
on the company’s innovative MCK EXTender technology and targeted
exclusively at mobile users, the MobileConneX PBXgateway extends the rich
feature set of the corporate PBX to cellular phones over any network,
enabling cellular telephones to behave like digital desk sets and bringing
unprecedented levels of portability and convenience to business telephony.
Mobile users can dial into the MobileConneX PBXgateway from any cellular
phone and, using the interactive voice response (IVR) system, provide
authentication and a dial-back telephone number to which the MobileConneX
PBXgateway routes all incoming calls. Providing much more than simple “find
me, follow me” functionality, the MobileConneX PBXgateway enables mobile
users to receive incoming business calls on their cellular phones, then
dial internal extensions to transfer a call to a colleague in the office,
initiate a conference call, or put a call on hold — just as they would
if they were in the office. All unanswered calls are routed back to the
corporate voicemail, giving users the convenience of one voice mailbox.
Moreover, the mobile user’s existing wireless service will continue to
function normally even while connected to the MobileConneX PBXgateway.

Avaya Provides Platform For Migration To 5
GHz Wireless LANs
Avaya announced the Avaya Wireless Access Point-3 (AP-3). It is
designed to be ready to deliver the next generation of wireless LANs (5
GHz wireless) and all of the mobility and smooth operation of today’s
2.4 GHz wireless. The Avaya Wireless AP-3’s powerful processor and twin
32-bit CardBus slot architecture provide a smooth migration path to
next-generation 802.11a wireless networks that operate in the 5 GHz range
with a bandwidth of up to 54 Mbps. The AP-3’s twin-slot architecture
allows IT managers to gradually migrate from one standard to another,
protecting their existing wireless network investment. Today, they can
install 11 Mbps, 802.11b radios in the AP-3 access points. As the new
802.11a radios become available, they can simply pop out one or both of
the 802.11b radios and replace them with new 802.11a radios. The AP-3
access point can operate with an 802.11b radio in one slot and an 802.11a
radio in the second slot, and this allows the enterprise to gracefully
move between the two technologies at their own pace.

Ameritec Intros New VoP3 Test Suite
Ameritec has announced the availability of its newest VoP3 test suite, which contains the ability for signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements, spurious noise detection, and path confirmation in a packet-switch network for its analog and digital models of AM2 Niagarac, AM2S Squirt, and Crescendo network load generators. Signal-to-noise ratio measurements have long been a standard quality measurement for traditional circuit-switched networks to evaluate the ratio of signal energy to the total energy on the circuit, which directly impacts the subscriber’s listen ability and clarity of the circuit. Ameritec has applied its 20-plus years of transmission impairment measurement test set development to its packet-switch test technology to produce the first call generator with this unique capability.

NetReality Releases WiseWAN 5.0
NetReality a leader in network application priority switching, has announced the availability of WiseWan 5.0, which takes bandwidth management to the CIO level. WiseWan is a network application priority switch (NAPS), which enables a corporation or carrier to assign mission-critical applications top priority as they traverse enterprise networks. Today’s bandwidth management products are mostly “for techies only,” providing detailed — often too detailed for the CIO level— information on traffic (such as by IP address). Responding to user feedback, in WiseWan 5.0 NetReality has built upon WiseWan’s already award-winning reporting capabilities to provide critical network traffic information in ways most meaningful to executives. Since many network managers are using WiseWan to justify upgrades to management during these tight times, these are important new features.
