BSNL's Calcutta Telephones has come out with a more flexible customer service center program which enables customers to pay their bills, get landline or mobile connections, subscribe to broadband service or even file a complaint right at their doorstep.

Calcutta Telephones and Hilltake Electronics Pvt Ltd have jointly invested more than Rs. 14 Lakh towards building the mobile customer service centre.

Under this program, Customer service personnel of BSNL's Calcutta Telephones will reach the customers in mobile vans. Currently there are 555 BSNL exchanges and 80 regular customer service centers in the Calcutta Telephones area.

“Our franchisee will take the mobile van all over the Calcutta Telephones area, so that customers can avail every facility that we offer from the van itself”, said Dr SK Chakravarty, chief general manager, Calcutta Telephones.

Calcutta Telephones launched the first mobile van, under BSNL's outreach programme, in collaboration with Hiltake Electronics Pvt Ltd, the franchisee hired by Calcutta Telephones to operate the vans.

Excited about the innovative scheme, Bimal Naulakha Jain, managing director, Hiltake said, “Within half an hour of the service being launched in Strand Road and Netaji Subhash Bose Road area, 20 Calcutta Telephones connections had been sold from the mobile van, and the queue of prospective customers was getting longer”.

Dr. Chakravarty added limelight to the program by revealing the company’s plan to launch four more such vans by March 2008. These vans will aim at reaching out to customers in remote areas within the Calcutta Telephones circle, which extends from Budge Budge in the south-west to Ulberia in the south-east, and from Tribeni in the north-west to Kalyani in the north-east.
