Mobile communications giant Nokia plans to release the N80 Internet Edition cell phone in about two weeks. The cell phone's new version will feature WLAN, a browser, VoIP-based calling support, a 3-megapixel camera, quadband GSM WCDMA coverage, and other Internet services not previously installed on other Nokia (News - Alert) devices.

VoIP-based calls made with the Nokia N80 Internet Edition will be carried over WLAN. The VoIP framework, based on the SIP protocol, will be integrated into the Nokia user interface. The wireless LAN wizard will help users locate and set up a WLAN connection, whenever they are one.

"Mobilizing the Internet is a major strategic focus for Nokia and I'm excited to see how people can participate on the Internet using the Nokia N80 Internet Edition," said Ralph Eric Kunz, vice president, Multimedia at Nokia in a statement. "The Internet has evolved from static Web pages to communities and people sharing experiences. I believe it will be multimedia computers, such as the Nokia N80 Internet Edition, that will be primary devices for people to participate in this phenomenon, in addition to PCs."

The device will be available in two colors—patina bronze and pearl black.
