Voilà IP Communications has begun monitoring its VoIP services with Empirix’s Hammer XMS. Voilà IP, an all-IP-based provider of voice and data communication services for small to medium-sized businesses, and Empirix (News - Alert) announced their partnership on Wednesday. The Hammer XMS system enables VoIP providers to monitor the quality of their services.

Empirix Hammer XMS bundles strong signaling, media analysis and call correlation capabilities to evaluate live network traffic for real-time assessment of network performance. Its signaling analysis allows VoIP service providers to identify and troubleshoot problems and monitor VoIP service quality.

“Prior to Empirix, we didn't have a cohesive network view of our VoIP services, and we knew it would be difficult to scale without adding more staff and equipment,” said Voilà IP’s vice president of Network Operations, Alan Basinger, in a statement.

Basinger continued: “The limited visibility we had using traditional element management tools meant we did not know about interoperability problems early enough, so we ended up spending way too much time on problem identification and resolution. Empirix Hammer XMS delivered the solution to all these problems and, even more importantly, it's scalable as we expand both our services and our market coverage.”

Today's announcement comes on the heels of Empirix's August launch of the Hammer Service Assurance for Speech, a managed testing service that evaluates the performance of speech applications used by contact centers. The service provides performance data, including application availability, speech recognition rates and transaction length. It also identifies areas for improvement and tests voice quality to establish whether speech recognition rates are affected by poor quality.

The automated service scales to meet different mixes of “real-world” call traffic and user loads. Hammer Service Assurance for Speech can also test a speech application prior to an initial rollout, and can help manage speech applications in production in order to make sure they perform well even as caller and agent load on a system grows.
