Spectra Logic, a data storage innovator, has unveiled enterprise-class features to SMEs with the introduction of a new version of the Spectra T50 tape library, the Spectra T50e. The features offered in the previous generation, such as LTO-4 encryption with key management and the operational simplicity of Spectra's BlueScale environment are enhanced in this version.

 

T50e extends many new features and functionalities. They include field replaceable components that allow for maximum uptime. All major components of the T50e are customer replaceable, apart from the available worldwide on-site support. Users can stage spares components on-site for fast replacement with the help of Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM (News - Alert)) option. Drives and power supplies are hot swappable.

 

The T50e provides dual port FC drives for redundant connectivity and higher availability and is available to SME LTO library users for the first time. Failover between the ports can be manual or automatic. Also, features such as encryption can be accessed with key management and EnergyAudit for power monitoring with Spectra's signature, proprietary software, and the BlueScale interface, accessible through a Web interface or the built-in LCD color touch screen.

 

Users can also get proactive notification of faulty tape media with the help of Media Lifecycle Management. Helping administrators to proactively manage tape media to reduce drive and tape errors, it records 30 system data points on each tape, giving vital statistical and diagnostic information.

 

Users can also buy additional storage capacity when needed as T50e offers the most comprehensive, seamless growth path. Scale from 10 slots to 50 slots within the same unit utilizing Spectra Capacity-On-Demand. T50e users can TranScale to the larger Spectra T120 to more than double their capacity when growth needs exceed 80 TB.
