Serving 5,000 outpatients daily, this 1,515 bed hospital in Taiwan was searching for a replacement for the legacy wireless network after it failed to deliver toll-quality voice or offer high security for data transferred between the Internet and the medical network. The hospital conducted a technical evaluation and selected Aruba for its voice over IP (VoIP) quality of service, interoperability with the existing data network, and network security.
Ching-Wen Yang, Taichung Veterans General Hospital's director of Computer Centers, said that they selected Aruba after seeing the company’s excellent performance in the VoIP QoS tests, its compatibility with their core medical network, and the flexibility of its policy-based firewall
The management decided to replace the existing network and also expand Wi-Fi coverage throughout the entire hospital.
“The system's guest access provides exceptional flexibility with respect to provisioning visitor and employee access based on bandwidth allocation, resource access, and group type. Our Wi-Fi network is at once secure, easy to manage, and very flexible -- an essential combination we always needed but had previously been unable to obtain,” Yang explained.
Aruba has allowed roaming physicians and staff to securely access medical records, nurse call status, and patient medication data. Now everybody in the medical facility can make toll-quality VoIP calls over the Wi-Fi network via a VoSKY (

Hospitals have very demanding wireless networking requirements and they have to ensure that at all times patient records are secured, voice traffic delivery are assured, and large video files are reliably transported, noted Marco Lee, country manager of Aruba Taiwan.
Lee said that Aruba can address all these requirements and emphasized that this one reason why Taichung Veterans General Hospital and a score of healthcare institutions worldwide have put their faith in Aruba mobility solutions.
