You can always count on change. Anyone who has been in the telecommunications industry the past year or so knows that all too well. It has been a tough year, and TMC has also been challenged by this tough marketplace. The broad-spectrum coverage of Communications Solutions magazine, on an array of dynamic and innovative communications technologies and products, was responsible for its rapid growth and success during the boom. But, ironically, this positioning also made the magazine especially vulnerable to the downturn.

Davox,  CELLIT Combine To Form Concerto Software

Davox Corporation announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire CELLIT, a privately held provider of comprehensive, unified CIM solutions for contact centers, in a cash and stock transaction. Effective immediately, Davox will begin doing business as Concerto Software. Concerto Software will provide a unique, comprehensive customer interaction management solution that allows companies to more effectively manage customer communication across all interaction channels, including telephone, fax, email, and the Web. This integrated, rapidly deployable solution will enable companies to better communicate with customers, improve customer service, and reduce operating costs.

Graybar To Distribute Sound Advantage Unified Comm

Sound Advantage announces a distribution agreement with Graybar Electric Company to market its SANDi speech-enabled unified communications products through Graybar's extensive reseller channel. Graybar is a leading national independent distributor of communications, data, and electrical products with sales exceeding $5 billion annually. The agreement gives Graybar entry into the emerging speech recognition and unified communications segments of the telephony market. Sound Advantage gains an important channel for its products scaled for small business, SANDi Lite 2.1 and SANDi Standard 2.1.

Tellabs' Cable Voice Modem Achieves DOCSIS 1.1 Cert

Tellabs received industry certification from CableLabs, the cable industry's research and development consortium, for its high-speed cable device that provides voice and data services using IP. This certification, DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) 1.1, confirms that the Tellabs CVM410 embedded multimedia terminal adapter (EMTA) will operate with almost any other DOCSIS 1.1-certified cable TV equipment.

Interactive Intelligence Large-Scale Unified Comm Product

Interactive Intelligence released its new unified communications product, called Communite. Communite replaces legacy voice mail systems and fax machines, and extends unified messaging by providing new services such as call screening and one-number follow me for even the largest organization. Communite is tightly integrated with Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Active Directory, enabling users to access all types of messages from their e-mail inboxes.

Alcatel Launches Converged Branch Office Solutions 

Alcatel announced Alcatel OmniBranch solutions that offer converged voice and data to enterprises with small, medium and large branch offices. The new solutions combine the Alcatel OmniAccess 512 router and the Alcatel OmniStack 6024 workgroup switch with the Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 voice communications server for cost-effective, feature-rich voice and data services to the branch. Alcatel can now provide customers with a wide range of capabilities in a solution that combines LAN switching, WAN routing, and all levels of voice features required to perform business such as PSTN for local calls.

MUSIC Telecom Integrates With Avaya Callmaster V

MUSIC Telecom announced one of the digital voice recording industry's first integrations for the Avaya Callmaster V agent telephone. This integration completes MUSIC's AVAYA offering for the DAC product family of digital station tap recording cards. MUSIC's DAC products are featured in their recently released DigiLog packages, which offer digital voice recording developers a complete recording hardware package for digital station passive tap products.

TelStrat Intl and G-Tek Electronics announced that they are developing and manufacturing new Cisco SCCP telephones for communications over Cisco Data Networks. The i2732 IP Telephone for Cisco AVVID voice networks expands on the current capabilities of other Cisco network terminals and offers telephony functionality -- such as 16-Line/Speed keys, Do-Not-Disturb, and parsing of soft features to fixed feature keys for simplified, single-glance-and-press, operation -- that is unavailable to the Cisco Call Manager or Cisco telephones.
