IDL Corp.'s MXU 2000R Connects Local Systems to Iridium Satellites for Reliable, Anytime-Anywhere Emergency Communications

Reliable, emergency communications systems are critical to enable health care facilities to continue operating as near to normal as possible during disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes or large-scale acts of terrorism. Today, many health care facilities, among other organizations, ensure their emergency preparedness with satellite phone systems.
Available from Dallas-based IDL Corp., the Multi-Exchange Unit (MXU 2000R) is a multi-channel satellite communications interface that can connect groups of users in fixed or isolated locations such as buildings, islands, constructions sites, oil and gas fields, and is often used as a backup or a first responder emergency system when landlines and cellular towers fail.

Currently, IDL's MXU system is in use within numerous Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals, regional health care systems and throughout various corporations concerned with anytime-anywhere communications with field employees such as TMC (News - Alert) Design and Raytheon. The MXU connects PBXs, public switched telephone networks and telephones to the Iridium global satellite system and is often used for communications in remote locations.
The MXU allows organizations to integrate their fixed- or field-base communications network with their emergency field communications network, and with other emergency base locations. For critical situations, the MXU and the Iridium (News - Alert) network are often times the only solution.
The system's channels allow simultaneous inbound or outbound calls, and also connection via a standard analog phone to anyone on the Iridium Satellite (News - Alert) network and to normal landline or cellular phones.
