CellTrust Launches Mobile Messaging Operations in Africa
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor
CellTrust Corporation, a U.S.-based provider of secure mobile messaging and applications, has launched operations in Africa.
CellTrust officials said that the Africa’s customer base will benefit from CellTrust’s SecureSMS Gateway (News - Alert), which helps businesses to exchange critical information with customers using mobile devices in a trusted environment.
Officials said that SecureSMS provides end-to-end privacy on the mobile device via a highly encrypted, tamper-proof process. A remote wipe functionality ensures users can wipe the handset if it is lost or stolen adds another critical layer of security.
Soon additional features would be available on CellTrust (News - Alert) SecureSMS including 2D barcodes, client-less SecureSMS, and a dynamic menu system for mobile banking and mobile payments.
“The market for secure mobile applications in Africa is multi-faceted and very promising,” said Samuel Ucheaga, managing director, CellTrust of Africa, in a statement.
Ucheaga said that key industries include mobile healthcare, mobile government and mobile financial services with a special emphasis on mobile money transfer, and mobile micro-credit applications, already evoking tremendous change across the continent.
Officials said that CellTrust of Africa has already begun discussions with municipalities in the region, as well as with enterprises in the healthcare, financial services/banking, education and governmental sectors.
“With Africa becoming the fastest growing mobile market in the world and mobile penetration in the region ranging from 30 to 100 percent, we needed a strong presence there,” said Sean Moshir (News - Alert), chief executive officer of CellTrust.
Moshir said that the company looks forward to working with the experienced CellTrust of Africa team to bring secure mobile applications to more than 300 million diverse users across the continent.
Back in November CellTrust Corporation had announced that it has launched its FlightAssist real-time flight monitoring solution at San Francisco International Airport, delivering a free service that will provide information on flight arrival times and other information to passengers and those traveling to the airport to pick up travelers.
With CellTrust’s FlightAssist service, passengers can notify a circle of friends in real-time through text messages on a cell phone if there is a flight delay or cancellation at SFO.
CellTrust’s FlightAssist is also the first mobile text flight monitoring service in North America to offer a convenient flight carbon offsetting option through its partnership with Carbonfund.org.
