PAETEC Teams Up with Neustar to Expand IP Interconnection Offerings
By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Strategic Initiatives
Next generation communication goes well beyond voice, a phenomenon that recently evidenced in a partnership forged by two market segment specialists this week. Communications provider PAETEC (News - Alert) has chosen Neustar Inc.’s SIP-IX solution as a vehicle for introducing new IP services and pursuing interconnection agreements with its various telecommunications partners.
In a recent interview with TMCnet, Neustar’s Jean Foster, vice president of marketing and channel sales, explained that SIP-IX, at the highest level, is a “very policy rich registry service” that has also been deployed with other carriers to enable SMS services, to drive new revenue streams and reduce operating expenses.
Company officials said that SIP-IX enables the “intelligent and efficient” routing of traffic between networks so that providers and enterprises can expand IP communications capabilities, ultimately creating new revenue opportunities for voice, video, and IP multimedia applications; reduces operating costs; and simplifies network interconnection.
“The more interesting part of this is enabling those services so they can start to charge for it,” Foster said, giving PAETEC a chance to more efficiently operate its peering relationships.
Neustar’s Next Generation Messaging suite consists of three core technologies: mobile instant messaging, presence and interconnect. These services are designed to enable service providers to deliver next generation messaging and services to their customers to create highly interactive communities, company officials said.
“Neustar’s SIP-IX solution enables and simplifies IP Interconnection, and will enable PAETEC to open up new revenue opportunities and more effectively operate peering relationships,” said Todd Lechtenberg, vice president of network planning at PAETEC.
PAETEC delivers personalized communications solutions to business-class customers in 83 percent of the nation’s top 100 metropolitan areas. The Fairport, N.Y.-based company’s data and voice products and value-added offerings aim to help customers achieve cost-effective solutions.
“The industry is witnessing an increased migration to IP-based networks, which enable operators to realize significant cost savings and also provide a platform for new revenue growth through next generation services,” added Steve Edwards, senior vice president of converged addressing at Neustar. “SIP-IX enables the transition to IP-based networks by providing a scalable cost-effective solution for interconnection between services providers. We appreciate the opportunity to work with PAETEC and continue to provide innovative solutions to enable ubiquitous VoIP interconnection.”
Last month, American cable operator Time Warner Cable announced it has implemented Neustar’s next generation risk management services throughout its entire franchise area.
In other PAETEC news, on the heels of receivinga pair of awards for fixed wireless offerings, the company announced today it has deployed a new Web-based pricing tool to help sales agents.
