ARRIS Systems Recognized By Broadband Gear Report
By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor
ARRIS has announced that two of its on demand video systems have been given four diamonds or better, out of a possible five by trade publication Broadband Gear Report, or “BGR.” The systems that have been given favorable ratings include the ARRIS ConvergeMedia Management System and the Verivue (News - Alert) MDX9200 flash-based media distribution switch
Laura Hamilton, editor-in-chief at BGR, said that today’s cable operators must live by the “always on” motto, and the Diamond Technology Reviews judges concluded that the ARRIS ConvergeMedia Management Suite was an excellent solution to help them do just that.
“They were impressed by the suite's abilities to unify the management of on-demand content and delivery including advertising,” Hamilton said, adding that the Diamond judges that reviewed the ARRIS MDX 9200 Media Distribution Switch, saw it as an innovative solution with a broad set of potential benefits and called out the solid state storage as the real differentiator.
A Unified Video Platform, the ARRIS ConvergeMedia Management System supports VOD, Broadcast Linear & VOD Advertising on a single platform. With the system, it is possible to import real time encoded content, legacy content, heterogeneous and hierarchical content all on a single platform.
The solution allows for personalization of subscriber content and can be used for offering dynamic On Demand Advertising and Interactive TV. Other benefits include full content life cycle management and active failover redundancy.
With its high streams to storage ratio, the ARRIS MDX9200 is perfect for managed content delivery network, or “CDN,” architectures controlling large amounts of media across distributed networks and geographies. Equipped with a new edge/caching server architecture, designed for MSOs’ media requirements, web applications and multi-protocol video content ingest and delivery, the ARRIS MDX9200 provides solid state local storage, embedded video processing, and a carrier-designed chassis.
ARRIS equips broadband operators with the technology for delivering reliable telephony, demand driven video, next-generation advertising and high-speed data services. The company has R&D centers in Atlanta, Chicago, Beaverton, Wallingford, Cork, Ireland and Shenzhen, China. Recently, ARRIS announced that the ConvergeMedia Management Suite formerly known as nABLE can be now used to dynamically manage heterogeneous OnDemand content across multiple video servers.
