Hemisphere GPS Taps Precision Agriculture Business in India

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

A Punjabi version of the Outback S-Lite GPS guidance system is now available from Hemisphere GPS.

This release supports the Punjabi language and also carries over all the proven features of the existing versions. This product is known for its compact size, expandable features and sub-meter accuracy. All these features make it an ideal entry-level GPS guidance solution for farming applications.

Hemisphere GPS will use this version with the Punjabi language capability for a range of activities such as spraying, spreading, broad-acre tillage and seeding applications. Punjab is one of the greenest states in India and boasts huge farms churning out a variety of agricultural crop. The Punjabi Outback S-Lite recognizes Gurmukhi script and is targeted at the farmers of this state.

Data available from the Government of Punjab indicates that this fertile region has more than 46 million acres in cultivated farmland and India's largest farming tractor population can be found here.

Dr. Mohamed Abousalem, vice president of marketing and business development for Hemisphere GPS noted that Outback S-Lite is suited for this target market because it has both the features and the price point to compete in this region.

Hemisphere GPS recognizes the tremendous opportunity that exists in India that has the largest arable land after the U.S.

“We will continue to adapt our products to meet the needs of this and other growing markets."

The Outback S-Lite guidance system now supports more than 20 international languages.
Hemisphere GPS is commited to broadening its global market share by making their Outback Guidance products more inclusive of growth market regions worldwide.

Hemisphere GPS designs and manufactures innovative, cost-effective GPS products for positioning, guidance and machine control applications in agriculture, marine and other markets.

Earlier this month, the company partnered with CLASS Agrosystems to launch Outback Sts in Europe. CLASS Agrosystems is providing a customized version of the Hemisphere GPS Outback Sts guidance system named COPILOT TS.
