Nokia Siemens Networks Launches High-Performance Site Solution for Mobile Operators
By Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributor
Telecom equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks Wednesday launched its High-Performance Site Solution that the company says will help operators expand and modernize their mobile networks cost- effectively and rapidly.
The solution, according to NSN, can bring savings by increasing base station capacity by 80 percent and coverage area by up to 40 percent.
In the days ahead, analysts believe, the solution will play a pivotal role in boosting the 2G, 3G and LTE (News - Alert) network coverage and capacity across the world. The 40 percent increase in coverage per base station means that fewer sites are needed to introduce mobile broadband to new areas.
The solution consists of a combination of Flexi Multiradio Base Station and a “feederless” site model with the base station located next to the antennas.
At the core of the solution is the capability to enable a six-sector site instead of the traditional three-sector site used in most network rollouts, which boosts capacity to handle data and voice calls by up to 80 percent per base station.
The High-Performance Site Solution is LTE-ready and requires a software upgrade when deployed in HSPA networks. NSN said it can also modernize GSM/EDGE networks.
The High-Performance Site Solution is already available for WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ and Internet-HSPA.
The solution, according to NSN, brings much-needed extra capacity in the booming mobile broadband market without the need for additional antennas or physical space.
“The small all-in-one solution can be easily installed in any location at lower implementation costs and enables operators to cost-effectively expand in markets where traditional sites are not feasible,” said Tommi Uitto, head of Wireless Access product management, NSN, in a release.
