AtHoc Alerts USCG during Emergencies

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is using AtHoc IWSAlerts for its nationwide emergency notification solution.

AtHoc’s network-centric mass notification systems will be used by more than 100 USCG facilities including headquarters, districts, and every sector and local station. This powerful system can easily reach 50,000 USCG personnel and maritime industry members.

The USCG's Alert and Warning System (AWS) is focused on transmitting maritime security notifications and receiving confirmations from maritime security partners and stakeholders.

AWS is working towards providing greater usability and functionality and to support additional USCG missions such as hurricane preparedness and waterway closure. According to a release, this AtHoc solution will be used to support the next generation of AWS for all Coast Guard missions.

This solution will also provide additional capabilities and services to the USCG and maritime partners with an aim to improve maritime safety and security.

Deployment in a centralized data center is enabled by AtHoc's enterprise-wide architecture. This implementation can support the 100 different USCG locations and each location can have its own local account and maintain information securely on an internal network. AtHoc system is thus able to provide centralized alert activation, control and management from a Web-based console.

AtHoc will deliver emergency alerts over multiple channels to recipients and accomplish personnel accountability by tracking and managing user responses to alert notifications in real time.

In a release, Guy Miasnik, president and CEO of AtHoc, noted that the U.S. Coast Guard's deployment of AtHoc's network-centric mass notification solution as its enterprise standard validates the power and flexibility of the AtHoc IWSAlerts platform.

The power of the platform was already proven by AtHoc's extensive DoD deployment and this further strengthens its position in the industry. The Coast Guard wanted a robust enterprise-wide solution that could disseminate sensitive but unclassified alerts to its personnel, maritime industry partners and other government agencies. The client wanted the task to be completed quickly and with high confidence.

“Given the USCG's leading role in national security and homeland defense, AtHoc is honored to be selected as the mass notification solution partner to provide these critical capabilities that are needed to carry out USCG's important mission,” Miasnik said.
